LONDON, 2 March 2026 – Building on the momentum of a landmark first week, Ramadan Tent Project (RTP) has delivered an outstanding second week of its multi-award-winning Open Iftar series, drawing crowds across the UK in its 13th year of bringing people together through culture, community and connection. Venues including Brighton Dome and Battersea Arts Centre opened their doors to people of all faiths and none to break their fast together. Now in its third week, the Open Iftar series is set to go nationwide, with five events across some of the country’s most acclaimed venues.
This week will begin with two Open Iftars in London. On Friday 6th March, the National Gallery, one of the capital’s most beloved landmarks, opens its doors for a gathering for all. Home to over 2,300 artworks spanning 700 years of history, the National Gallery offers a breathtaking backdrop for guests to come together and break their fast in the heart of the city.
Karen Eslea, Head of Learning Programmes at the National Gallery, said: “The National Gallery is pleased to host an Open Iftar as part of the Ramadan Festival 2026. This year’s festival celebrates the theme of Hope, exploring its power to unite and inspire. Reflecting the Gallery’s ongoing commitment to its audiences, we look forward to welcoming people of all faiths and backgrounds to share in these special celebrations as we come together in marking this important time for the Muslim community.”
On the same day, Open Iftar heads to North London, with the iconic Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, one of the city’s largest and most celebrated sporting venues, welcoming guests for an evening that transcends sport. Having witnessed some of the Premier League’s most electric atmospheres, the stadium is as much a symbol of its community as it is of the game, sitting at the heart of one of London’s most diverse boroughs. For football fans and first-time visitors alike, this is a rare opportunity to experience one of the capital’s most spectacular venues in a new light.
Sally Mbewe, Spurs Foundation Equalities, Diversity & Inclusion Manager, said: “We’re proud to be hosting this Open Iftar at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in partnership with the Ramadan Tent Project. The stadium is a space for everyone and this event reflects our ongoing commitment to celebrating the diversity of our community and creating opportunities for people of all backgrounds to come together. Ramadan is a time of reflection, generosity and unity, and we’re honoured to help provide a welcoming environment where those observing can break their fast, and where neighbours can connect and learn from one another.”
On Saturday 7th March, Glasgow City Chambers will welcome guests for Scotland’s first Open Iftar this Ramadan 2026. As one of the finest examples of Victorian civic architecture in Europe, the City Chambers is a fitting venue for a city home to the largest Muslim population in Scotland. Simultaneously, back in London, the medieval and historic Guildhall – headquarters of the City of London Corporation – will host its own Open Iftar too. This iconic civic building will welcome hundreds of guests in a setting that has witnessed centuries of British history, governance and ceremony. Both events mark a symbolic moment of bringing the spirit of Ramadan to historic civic venues, and celebrating unity, faith and community.
The Lord Provost of Glasgow, Jacqueline McLaren, said: “As a city that is enriched by many cultures, faiths and traditions, marking religious observances is an important reflection of who we are. This first Open Iftar is recognition of how important Ramadan and Islam is to many Glaswegans.”
City of London Corporation Policy Chairman, Chris Hayward, said: “Guildhall has stood at the heart of London for centuries, as a place where communities come together in moments of
significance. We are proud to open the doors of Guildhall once again to host this Open Iftar, welcoming people to share in reflection, friendship, and fellowship. In a world where understanding and unity matter more than ever, this gathering reflects our enduring commitment to building a more inclusive Square Mile where communities feel a sense of belonging.”
On Sunday 8th March, the Library of Birmingham will host its first Open Iftar in its history. Opened in 2013 and described by architect Francine Houben as a ‘people’s palace’, this landmark of modern Birmingham will transform into a welcoming space for reflection, connection and community. The setting for this historic Open Iftar comes with innovation as Ramadan Tent Project teams up with Swedish home furnishing brand, IKEA, to create a warm, calm and authentic Ramadan home atmosphere with sleek design. As one of the city’s most vibrant cultural hubs, the Library offers a fitting backdrop for an evening that brings people of all faiths and none together to share Iftar in a home away from home setting.
Nick Singh, EDI Lead, IKEA UK & Ireland, said: “IKEA are proud to support Ramadan Tent Project at their first Open Iftar at the Library of Birmingham. By filling the space with IKEA home comforts, our aim is to create a joy-filled home away from home for guests, and an ideal setting for the community to come together and break fast.”
Suzanna Da Silva, Managing Director of Unique Venues Birmingham, said: “Unique Venues Birmingham is proud to host Open Iftar at the Library of Birmingham as part of Ramadan Festival 2026. The festival’s focus on connection, learning, and shared humanity strongly aligns with our commitment to providing inclusive, civic spaces that bring communities together. The 2026 theme of Hope is particularly meaningful, and we are delighted to support an event that encourages understanding, dialogue, and unity across diverse audiences.”
Other programmes and activations taking place during Ramadan Festival 2026 includes the return of Fast A Day now in its 3rd year, working with businesses to host intimate iftars raising awareness about Ramadan and encouraging colleagues to fast a day, fostering workplace inclusion and understanding. Also making a return is Ramadan Run Club, a safe space for runners of all backgrounds, seeking physical activity and connection in Ramadan, and of course, the highly anticipated Open Iftar events across 8 UK cities, hosted at some of the country’s most celebrated and iconic venues.
Open Iftar, the showcase of the annual Ramadan Festival and the UK’s largest community event series in Ramadan, brings together people of all backgrounds to open their fast and share a meal in the spirit of generosity, inclusion and cultural exchange. Since its inception, Ramadan Tent Project has welcomed and connected over one million people nationwide, transforming historic, cultural and sporting landmarks into spaces of shared reflection and belonging.
Omar Salha, Founder and CEO of Ramadan Tent Project, said: “Welcoming the return of Ramadan Festival in 2026 fills me with a profound sense of hope, our chosen theme for this year. Hope is what carries communities through challenge, inspires generosity, and reminds us that renewal is always possible. It is central to Ramadan. It is the thread that connects our past
to our future, and the light that guides us towards compassion, unity, and purpose. Entering our 13th year, it is remarkable to witness the incredible growth of the festival across exciting new spaces, venues and landmarks that reflect the diversity and dynamism of our nation. Allowing us to bring more people together, create deeper cultural experiences, and celebrate the spirit of Ramadan in ways that are more accessible, more vibrant, and more inclusive than ever before. A powerful symbol of how Ramadan is part of Britain’s rich cultural ecology.
Ramadan teaches us to look inward with sincerity and outward with kindness. By anchoring the Ramadan Festival 2026 in the theme of Hope, we’re honouring that tradition by inviting people from all faiths and none, turning strangers into friends, to imagine and build a future rooted in empathy, connection, and shared humanity. We look forward to welcoming thousands of visitors and guests across the UK throughout the festival. We’re excited for what this year will bring and grateful to everyone who continues to make this festival a beacon of togetherness.”
